When it comes to returning kicks, no player has had more success in the opening month of the season than Jacksonville Jaguars receiver Jamal Agnew. Dating back to Week 2’s game against Denver, the veteran has returned a kick for a touchdown, and as a result, he’s been named the AFC’s Special Teams Player of the Month.
While the Jags haven’t been able to register their first win yet, Agnew has been a bright spot and has shown the fanbase why the Jags signed him to a nice deal this spring. Against the Broncos, he was able to return a kickoff for 102 yards in the fourth quarter, then on Sunday, he had a kick-six against Arizona for 109 yards in the second quarter. The latter tied the NFL’s record and was the first field goal that has been returned for a touchdown since 2007 when cornerback Antonio Cromartie did it with the San Diego Chargers.
Agnew is the only player in the league with at least one kick return touchdown throughout the first three weeks of the regular season. Additionally, his 46.0 kickoff return average through Week 3 was the best in the league as he had three to his name for 138 yards.
Agnew has seven special teams touchdowns to his name now when looking at his career figures. Four of those are punt returns that came during his tenure with the Detroit Lions, and he also had a kickoff return touchdown with them. Of course, the remaining two special teams touchdowns have come during his short tenure with the Jags, and fans will be hoping for many more.
