Trevor Lawrence had a tumultuous rookie season with the Jacksonville Jaguars last season, but with the team’s 2021 struggles in the rearview mirror, Jaguars general manager Trent Baalke believes the best is yet to come for Lawrence.
Baalke drafted Lawrence No. 1 overall in the 2021 NFL Draft, and through the first set of organized team activities, he has seen Lawrence’s personal growth from his first year in the league.
“He’s just more confident,” Baalke said on the O-Zone Podcast. “You know, he’s carrying himself with more confidence. He’s delivering the ball quicker. He’s continuing to do that. I’ve seen that through the course of the offseason, getting the ball out of his hands, being more decisive.”
For Lawrence, he has seen the entire team progress from last year’s 3-14 squad that dealt with former head coach Urban Meyer being fired after 13 games.
“Offensively and defensively, in my eyes, I think it’s night and day [compared to] where we were last year,” Lawrence said. “I’m just excited to keep working and keep building on that because I really think we got something going right now.”
In his first season in the NFL, Lawrence completed 59.6% of his passes for 3,641 yards, 12 touchdowns and 17 interceptions. With the addition of Doug Pederson as his new head coach and the return of running back Travis Etienne, Lawrence is set up for a much-improved sophomore campaign.
