Jaguars cornerback Shaquill Griffin ruled out with a concussion

Jacksonville lost one of its most important defensive starters in the game against the 49ers.

Jacksonville’s defense has struggled quite a bit against the San Francisco 49ers, and if the Jaguars are going to mount a second-half comeback, they’ll have to do it without the best player in the secondary.

Cornerback Shaquill Griffin exited the game in the first half with a concussion. While it’s unclear how he sustained the concussion, Griffin did have a play where he hit receiver Brandon Aiyuk during a 30-plus yard reception and bounced off him without wrapping up. Not too soon after that, news broke about his injury.

With Griffin out, Nevin Lawson has taken over on the outside. Lawson has seen limited playing time this season, but he notched an interception in extended action in the win over Miami in London.

The Jags really can’t afford to be down any bodies in the defensive backfield, and Griffin’s status will definitely be something to monitor as the week goes on.
