Jacksonville is back in action on Sunday with another game against a likely playoff team on the road. In its first matchup against the Tennessee Titans back in October, the team was dominated at TIAA Bank Field in a 37-19 loss. This time around, the Jags will look to end a four-game losing streak against the Titans, who they have only beaten once in the last nine tries. They also haven’t won in Nashville since 2013.
The Jaguars also find themselves on a four-game losing streak in 2021, failing to capitalize on the 9-6 win over the Buffalo Bills a month ago. The offense has struggled and only becomes more anemic with each injury to the offensive line and receiving corps, and the usage of running back James Robinson has been puzzling (even, apparently, for head coach Urban Meyer).
They face a Titans defense this week that ranks near the middle of the pack in the NFL but is very good against the run. With Robinson potentially still limited, that doesn’t bode very well for the run game. Tennessee is much weaker against the pass, and though Lawrence didn’t find much success in the first matchup, he could improve, even with limitations at receiver, as he is taking better care of the football than before. The Titans could also be without cornerback Jackrabbit Jenkins, who did not practice with an ankle injury on Wednesday.
Jacksonville’s defense, meanwhile, has been much better even though it struggled against a very talented Los Angeles Rams offense last week. The team is likely to get cornerback Shaquill Griffin back from concussion protocol, and it faces a Tennessee offense that is a shell of the unit the Jags faced back in October.
They got gashed in that game by Derrick Henry, per usual, and Henry was on his way to a third consecutive rushing title before a Jones fracture in his foot landed him on the injured reserve. He was joined last week by receiver A.J. Brown. However, the Titans could get Julio Jones back this week, as the veteran receiver was designated to return from the injured reserve.
Beating the 8-4 Titans, especially on the road, won’t come easy. But this matchup looks a lot more winnable than the first one did, and Jacksonville will look for another win over a playoff-caliber team. Here’s all the information you need to watch and stream it.
