The Jacksonville Jaguars entered 2020 down one member in their staff after quarterbacks coach Scott Milanovich took a head coaching gig in the Canadian Football League and another member from the staff will be moving on, too. Assistant running back coach John Donovan was hired by the University of Washington Friday and will be moving on to the college ranks to be their offensive coordinator.

“Coach Donovan has a great deal of experience at both the college and NFL levels, learning from a lot of great offensive minds about coaching the kind of aggressive, pro-style offense we want to play here at Washington,” said Washington head coach Jimmy Lake. “From my own experience, I know how much a coach can learn and grow by spending significant time in the NFL. I’m excited for him to get to Seattle and get started.”

Donovan had been an offensive assistant for the Jags three seasons prior to 2019. After a promotion, he got an opportunity to help running backs coach Terry Robiskie with Leonard Fournette, who had a career high of 1,152 yards last season. He also help bring along rookie Ryquell Armstead who had two passing touchdowns along with the rest of the Jags’ tailbacks.

Donovan will also come into his tenure with the Huskies with coordinator experience. He was an offensive coordinator for both Vanderbilt (2011-13) and Penn State (2014-15), both of which were jobs under James Franklin.
