Simply put, it’s been hard to find many national pundits who believe the Jacksonville Jaguars will have more than three wins in 2020, if there indeed is an NFL season. The team had an offseason where they traded many notable names and the nation felt they lost too much talent and went into rebuilding mode as a result.
The loss of names like Calais Campbell, Marcell Dareus, Nick Foles, A.J. Bouye and Jalen Ramsey also didn’t help the Jags’ overall Pro Football Focus grades, leaving them with a lot of young unestablished names. As a result, they ranked dead last in PFF’s recent roster rankings.
In the post PFF, listed the Jags defensive line as their biggest strength though Yannick Ngakoue’s status is up in the air. Still, with the additions of Davon Hamilton and K’Lavon Chaisson, PFF pointed out that the talent was clearly there.
As for the team’s biggest weakness, PFF pointed to the cornerback position. That’s not exactly a surprise because as we pointed out earlier
Mathematically, it makes sense for the Jags to rank as low as they did because they lack players with overall grades of more than 76.9, which is the grade nickel back D.J. Hayden acquired on the season. Behind him were Taven Bryan (75.6), Brandon Linder (75.3), D.J. Chark (75.2), Jarrod Wilson (72.8), and Gardner Minshew II (70.3), respectively.
However, when looking outside of PFF’s numbers, the Jaguars certainly don’t feel like the worst roster in football. On paper there appears to be teams worse off than the Jags like the Washington Redskins, Miami Dolphins, and Cincinnati Bengals. Luckily for the Jags, they play two of those teams (the Bengals and Dolphins) early in the season and will get to show the nation that they may not be as bad as many projected.
