Jaelan Phillips shares what it is that inspires him

It’s an answer that a lot of the top athletes would give.

Miami Dolphins linebacker Jaelan Phillips had a great start to his career, as he recorded a franchise rookie record of 8.5 sacks in his first season in the NFL despite getting off to a slow start.

The 18th overall pick in the 2021 draft took some time out of his busy schedule to speak with his teammate Brennan Scarlett and current free agent linebacker Brandon Copeland on their “AthleteAnd” podcast to discuss his path to the NFL as well as his interests off the field.

Phillips, when asked what he’s inspired by, gave an answer that some of the top of their craft give.

“I’m inspired by greatness,” Phillips said. “It’s when you spend hours and hours countless time, like dedicating yourself to something. Uh, and that feeling of success and that feeling of accomplishing something, there’s just nothing like it. So, so for me, it’s just, I have obviously favorite players and favorite artists and stuff like that, but I just love seeing greatness. Well, it makes me want to be great.”

It may be early in the 22-year-old’s professional career, but with the flashes that he displayed in his rookie season, he has a chance to be great.
