Clemson football legend Trevor Lawrence is probably done for the year.
The Jacksonville Jaguars announced that they had placed the injured franchise quarterback on injured reserve. The Jaguars made the announcement moments after NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport and ESPN’s Adam Schefter first posted the news to social media.
Lawrence was injured on a dirty hit to the head from Houston Texans linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair in Sunday’s 23-20 Jaguars loss at EverBank Stadium in Jacksonville.
On Tuesday, Al-Shaair was suspended three games for repeated violations of player safety rules after his hit on Lawrence. Al-Shaair was ejected in the second quarter. Lawrence suffered a concussion on the hit from the veteran NFL linebacker, who is in his sixth season in the league.
At just 2-10 and in last place in the AFC South, the Jaguars are in the midst of a miserable season — one that just got even worse. Jacksonville is tied with the Las Vegas Raiders and New York Giants for the worst record in the league.
Over the off-season, Lawrence agreed to a five-year, $275 million contract extension from the Jaguars. Before Sunday’s injury, he had thrown for 2,045 yards and 11 touchdowns to seven interceptions this season and compiled a quarterback rating of 85.2. That ranked Lawrence 29th out of 35 quarterbacks in the NFL this season.
