Jaguars at Titans game notes

  • Many talking heads expected the Jaguars to struggle this season, but QB Gardner Minshew and company have different ideas. They opened with a stunning 27-20 win over the Indianapolis Colts in Week 1, winning outright as a touchdown underdog at home.
  • Minshew tossed three touchdowns in the opener, including a hook-up with rookie WR Laviska Shenault Jr. RB James Robinson sits atop the backfield depth chart after the team jettisoned RB Leonard Fournette earlier in the month. Robinson had 17 total touches for 90 yards from scrimmage to lead all Jacksonville backs.
  • Titans PK Stephen Gostkowski had an adventure against the Denver Broncos Monday night, misfiring on three field-goal attempts and a point after try. He was still trusted in the final minute, and he split the uprights on a 25-yarder to seal the win. Most side bettors and total bettors alike do not enjoy kicking woes.
  • Titans WR Corey Davis posted his first 100-yard game since Nov. 11, 2018. The Tennessee offense was balanced, totaling 377 yards with 247 through the air and 130 on the ground. The Titans also won the turnover battle 1-0.
  • The Jaguars are 0-4-1 ATS in their past five trips to Nashville, and 1-5 ATS in the previous six head-to-head meetings. The home team is 8-2-1 ATS in the past 11 in this series, with the favorite 7-3-1 ATS during the span. The Over hit in four of the past five in Music City.

Jaguars at Titans: Odds, betting lines, picks and prediction

Prediction

Titans 27, Jaguars 16

Moneyline (?)

The Titans (-385) are heavy favorites at home, and they should be able to win, but the Jaguars (+295) have already stunned one division rival as a touchdown underdog, so let Week 1 serve as a cautionary tale.

Nothing is a sure thing. AVOID.

Against the Spread (?)

I like the TITANS (-7.5, -110) in this one despite the uprising of the Jaguars (+7.5, -110) last week in the opener. Jacksonville never seems to fare well in Nashville, and the Titans won’t (or shouldn’t) leave a ton of points on the board like they did in Denver. They’re a lot better than the 16-14 win they put up Monday, and the Jaguars overperformed.

Expect both sides to play much closer to their capabilities Sunday, which means a double-digit difference.

Over/Under (?)

The lean is to OVER 44.5 (-110), but I wouldn’t start searching the couch cushions and looking under the car seats for extra money to bet the farm.

If it goes Over it will likely be sometime in the fourth quarter. The Jags hit the Over in Week 1, while the Titans won a low-scoring game. Tennessee will be able to do more this week as they get back on track offensively.
