Jaguars at Texans game notes
- Former defensive coordinator and assistant head coach Romeo Crennel will take over for O’Brien on an interim title. He was last head coach of the Kansas City Chiefs in 2012 and has a career record of 28-55 as a head coach.
- The Jaguars have dropped three straight games after opening their season with an upset win of the division rival Indianapolis Colts. They’ve allowed 30-plus points in each of the last three games.
- The Texans have given up no fewer than 28 points through four games and have lost each game by at least 7 points. It was a 31-23 home loss to the then-winless Minnesota Vikings which did in O’Brien.
- The Over has hit in three of four games for each side. Houston has topped the projected total by just one point per game with Jacksonville playing an average of 6 points above the line.
- Houston swept the head-to-head season series each of the last two years. It won three of the four games by multiple scores and held Jacksonville below 10 points three times.

Jaguars at Texans: Odds, betting lines, picks and prediction
Prediction
Texans 27, Jaguars 21
Money line (?)
Back the TEXANS (-250) to win this week after the firing of O’Brien. They have the two best players in this game in QB Deshaun Watson and DE J.J. Watt and look for the leaders on either side of the ball to take control of this team.
The Jaguars (+210) have reverted to what we thought they’d be after their surprise Week 1 win, and head coach Doug Marrone is now near the top of lists to be the next coach fired this season.
Houston also enters as the much healthier of the two teams, particularly on defense.
Against the spread (?)
Get more profitable odds with the TEXANS -5.5 (-110) by backing them to win by at least 6 points. The line hasn’t moved much since O’Brien was let go, an indication of the expected improvement via subtraction.
Over/Under (?)
The UNDER 53.5 (-106) is the way to go as the lines continue to move north entering the fifth week of the season. The Texans haven’t put up more than 23 points in any of their four games. Each of the last four head-to-head clashes finished with fewer than 30 total points scored.
