The Southeastern Conference announced its weekly honors on Monday and Florida left-handed pitcher/first baseman [autotag]Jac Caglianone[/autotag] was named one of three Co-Players of the Week after a dominant performance against Florida State and Ole Miss.
Caglianone went 11 for 18 (.611/.650/1.333) over the week, mashing four home runs and a double in the process. Three of those homers came on Saturday during Florida’s doubleheader in Oxford, Mississippi, and the other came in the first inning of a game he pitched to give himself the lead. He also had a four-hit day against the Seminoles on Tuesday.
The Florida sophomore now leads the nation with 17 home runs and is No. 10 in the country with 38 runs batted in. LSU‘s Dylan Crews, a potential No. 1 overall pick in the upcoming draft, and Vanderbilt’s Parker Noland also claimed a share of the award. All three teams are ranked within the top four in the country, according to D1Baseball.
This is the second time Caglianone has earned conference player of the week honors this season. He previously won it on February 27 following Florida’s sweep of Cincinnati.
[autotag]Wyatt Langford[/autotag] might be the Gator most pro scouts have their eyes on this season, but Caglianone is making a strong case to enter 2024 as the runaway favorite for the first overall pick.
