Ja Morant and the Memphis Grizzlies returned to action on Friday in their first scrimmage game ahead of the season restart this month at the Walt Disney World Resort.
The Grizzlies came out of the gate a bit slow after facing a 54-28 deficit at halftime but went on a run in the second half. They cut the lead down to just five points with under a remaining left in regulation but ultimately came up short, 90-83.
Morant finished with seven points, eight assists and five rebounds in 27 minutes of work, while he shot just 3-of-12 from the field in the loss. Despite struggling to shoot, Morant had a number of highlight-reel dunks and flashy passes to his teammates.

The results of the matchup, of course, won’t count toward the season standings but it gave teams the opportunity to fine-tune things prior to the season restart on July 30. The Grizzlies began to click toward the end of the game and that should be encouraging moving into the second scrimmage game on Sunday against the Houston Rockets.
