The wait appears to be nearly over.

After weeks of speculation, the Big Ten is set to make an announcement that it will be reinstating the 2020 college football season this fall.

However, it will start a bit later than anticipated.

The original start date that was bandied about was Oct. 10, then Oct. 17 became the likely date, but according to Yahoo Sports’ Pete Thamel, it will begin Oct. 24.

On Wednesday morning, the waiting finally ended. Sources confirmed to Yahoo Sports that the Big Ten will return to play in the fall of 2020. The league is expected to start the season on Oct. 24, which is scheduled to allow for both a conference title game and a potential spot in the College Football Playoff.

The decision has been expected since the Big Ten Council of Presidents and Chancellors (COPC) met on Sunday night, as optimism had permeated through the league. But as the days went on and information evaporated, the coaches and administrators around the league were frozen in anticipation.

While most likely won’t be able to relax or celebrate until the official announcement and the schedule come through, given that multiple reporters have signaled it’s happening, we can be sure that, yes, Big Ten Football is back.
