‘It was perfect’: Rookie Aleksej Pokusevski excited to be in OKC

The rookie seems like he’s already found a home.

One of the most interesting storylines to follow this season in Oklahoma City will be the development of rookie Aleksej Pokusevski.

Pokusevski, who comes to the Thunder after beginning his professional career in Greece, is the youngest player selected in the 2020 NBA Draft. It’s not every day that young European players come into the NBA and make an immediate impact, but it’s obvious that the Thunder’s brain trust saw something in him.

Apparently, fans in Oklahoma City see something, as well, as Pokusevski has loved every minute of his experience so far.

“It was perfect,” Pokusevski said of his first few weeks as a member of the Thunder.

“Getting used to the time [zone] and the people in the city — they’re warm, they’ve welcomed me like I’ve been playing here, but this is my first time. I’m happy.”

Already, Pokusevski has seemed to have gotten positive vibrations from his teammates, as well.

“Guys from the club are perfect. Great guys. They’re warm. It’s just like a family. I’m 10 days here but I feel like [I’ve spent] the whole season here.”

According to the rookie, he had no idea that he would land in Oklahoma City, even though the Thunder were rumored to have interest in him for several weeks prior to the draft.

“Before the draft, we didn’t have any contact, I didn’t talk to anyone,” he admitted.

“Like I said once, I was shocked that I was chosen at number 17 and then transferred to OKC, I was shocked. I didn’t know that was gonna happen but I was happy about it.”

Apparently, he isn’t the only one. He’s one player who will have tons of eyes on him this season.
