The Seattle Seahawks watched Saturday’s game between the Los Angeles Rams and Arizona Cardinals praying for a Cardinals win. They nearly received one. Instead, a season that’s been extremely inconsistent reached its conclusion in ironic, fitting fashion. Arizona trailing 13-9, facing a 1st-and-goal from the Rams’ five-yard line with 42 seconds remaining. A Kyler Murray pass bounced off Trey McBride’s helmet, and cornerback Ahkello Witherspoon made an outstanding diving interception.
That same Witherspoon that couldn’t cut it in Seattle.

Witherspoon knows the NFC West well. He was drafted by the San Francisco 49ers in the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft, but failed to meet expectations throughout his four-year rookie contract. He joined the Seahawks via free agency in March of 2021, but was traded to the Pittsburgh Steelers in September in exchange for a 2023 fifth-round draft pick. John Schneider drafted Mike Morris with that selection.
Witherspoon’s interception essentially ended the Seahawks’ season. The Rams’ victory meant Seattle needed a ton of outside help to make next Sunday’s Week 18 finale with the Rams mean something. Seattle was officially eliminated from postseason contention following the Washington Commanders’ Sunday night primetime win over the Atlanta Falcons.
The Seahawks were far too inconsistent throughout 2024. It’s fitting that a player they once deemed surplus essentially ended their postseason dreams. Witherspoon will appreciate that while celebrating a division crown with the Rams. Seattle ultimately cost themselves by relying on outside assistance.
