The Philadelphia 76ers are a long way off from the infamous “process”, but it’s still funny now and then to look back on what was some of the darkest years in Sixers franchise history.
Former Sixers process champion, and now Washington Wizards guard, Ish Smith was asked by Go For It radio about a funny process moment with the Sixers and he had one at the ready.
Smith recalled a 3-team trade the Sixers made with the Houston Rockets and the Detroit Pistons back in 2016 that would have sent Joel Anthony to Philadelphia. The trade would have affected everybody’s money, but it was voided after Donatas Motiejunas failed his physical with the Pistons.
Smith recalled:
We knew that if the money wasn’t right, then we were going to get a certain amount. They end up making a trade for Joel Anthony so they can make the money right and we wouldn’t get the extra money…so we were like, and nothing against Joel, we were like ‘Man!’ and it ended up like, we come in the locker room and we’re thinking we’re going to see him in the locker room and they were like ‘No, the trade didn’t go through’. I want to say somebody failed his physical and we were so hype!
Playing for the process Sixers was already a chore, the least they could do was earn themselves some extra money. [lawrence-related id=25670,25663,25657]
