Nebraska football safety Isaac Gifford was one of 16 Big Ten Conference semifinalists for the William V. Campbell Trophy. The list was announced on Wednesday.
The Campbell Trophy recognizes a player as the best football scholar-athlete in the nation. This is decided based on combined academic performance, football performance, and leadership, per the official website.
Gifford has undoubtedly made his impact felt on the field. He has recorded 22 tackles, including five against Illinois last Friday. He has been in the Nebraska football program since the 2020 season and has slowly worked his way into becoming a key defensive contributor.
The 2023 season was his breakout year, as he tallied 86 tackles and an interception.
Gifford has had a well-rounded experience at Nebraska during his academic and athletic career. On the field, he will look to continue to be an aggressive defender as the program looks to get back into the win column on Saturday against Purdue.
