Is UTA transfer guard Chendall Weaver a good potential fit with Texas A&M?

Texas A&M has reached out to former UTA guard and WAC Freshman of the Year, Chendall Weaver.

Texas A&M and head coach Buzz Williams is continuing to explore multiple portal options, even after signing former standout Illinois-Chicago guard Jace  Carter last Tuesday, looking for more options to help ease their transition after the departure of guard and defensive stalworth, Dexter Dennis. Outside of many of the notable Power 5 transfers still, in the portal, Williams has continued to emphasize hidden gems within the mid-major, recently showing interest in former UT Arlington guard Chendall Weaver.

In his one and only season with the Mavericks, Weaver was named WAC Freshman of the Year and shot over 40% from beyond the arc while averaging 9.5 points per game, 4.6 rebounds, and 2.0 assists in 2022.

Just how well could Chendall Weaver fit with the Maroon and White? In need of more shooting consistency from the outside, Weaver’s 40% mark in his first season is a good start, while All-SEC guard Wade Taylor IV led the 2022 squad at 35% from three, yet the team only shot 32%, ranked 259th in the country last season. Defensively, Weaver’s size at 6-3 and 164 pounds adds adequate size in the backcourt, though he’ll need to continue adding healthy mass to his frame.

Most importantly, Weaver is the brother of former Texas A&M All-American guard Chennedy Carter, who was recently selected 4th overall by the Atlanta Dream in the 2023 WNBA draft, so maybe this incredible Aggie connection will have some influence on the young man as he continues to review his options.
