Is Titans’ Dillon Radunz ready to start today? Mike Vrabel says ‘no’

Mike Vrabel says its on Dillon Radunz and the coaching staff to develop him into a starter.

The Tennessee Titans are facing the possibility of making some changes on the offensive line this offseason, and the thought is that 2021 second-round pick, Dillon Radunz, could factor into the equation.

However, as of right now, it appears he has some work to do.

When asked if Radunz is ready to start next season, Titans head coach Mike Vrabel said “no” and went into detail about how it’s on Radunz and the coaching staff to develop him to that point.

“He’s going to have every opportunity to start, but if you’re asking me that today, no,” Vrabel said. “He stepped in (in Week 15), ready to go, stage wasn’t too big for him. We’ve had conversations with Dillon, excited to work with him; it’s going to be a huge offseason for him developmentally. And I’m confident that he will take that coaching and teaching and improve.”

Radunz’s first season in Nashville was a disappointment overall, as didn’t provide the immediate impact the Titans were hoping for, starting in one of 12 games he appeared in and playing just 124 offensive snaps.

However, Radunz did at least provide some hope for the future when called upon, especially in his spot start in the Week 15 win over the San Francisco 49ers, a game in which he played well for the most part.

The Titans have been giving Radunz looks in practice at both guard and tackle since drafting him, which has led to some debate about where his future ultimately lies.

During his combine presser, general manager Jon Robinson admitted that Radunz’s position is to be determined, but noted that he has the most experience at the tackle position.

Based on this, the Titans clearly can’t fully depend on Radunz to take over a starting spot in 2022, which only adds to the idea that Tennessee needs to focus on the offensive line this offseason, whether it’s with an eye on the present, the future, or both.
