The polls sure seem to tell the story of a Big Ten conference that is the strongest and deepest in all of college football. The latest USA TODAY Sports AFCA Coaches Poll shows why the Big Ten is the best in college football.
It settles at least for one year what is the best conference in college football. Even if this year has been crazier than most.
And rather than being top-heavy, the inclusion of five programs among the top 11 teams in the nation indicates the broad strength of the Big Ten. Over one-third of the conference is ranked in the top 11. No other conference can match that.
No other conference really comes close.
This all makes the argument that the Big Ten, often overlooked by the glamorous SEC and the recently top-heavy ACC, is in fact the best conference in college football. The depth and breadth of the top teams in the conference make this perhaps the most difficult conference in the sport.
And with Northwestern’s win on Saturday perhaps signaling a return to form for the Wildcats, the Big Ten is looking very strong in their top-half.
