Is TE Jordan Akins the most under appreciated player on the Texans?

The Houston Texans don’t have many superstars, which means they have a bevy of under appreciated players. Does tight end Jordan Akins lead the pack?

The Houston Texans went 4-12 last season and they don’t have any superstars on the roster, save for quarterback Deshaun Watson.

As such, it is fair to say, with an optimistic lens, the Texans have a roster full of under appreciated and overlooked players. The question is: who is the most overlooked Texans player?

According to Cynthia Frelund of NFL.com, tight end Jordan Akins is the most under appreciated player on the roster.

Per Next Gen Stats, Akins averaged 3.7 yards of separation per target in 2020 (sixth-most among tight ends) and his +6.2 percent catch rate over expected ranked fourth (both min. 40 targets). With a lot of changes to this offense for 2021, Akins’ ability to create space could be a potential source of reliability and strength.

Akins caught 37 passes for 403 yards and a touchdown through 13 games last season, five of which he started. The Texans added to the tight end group in the offseason by signing Antony Auclair, Ryan Izzo, and Paul Quessenberry and also drafting Brevin Jordan in the fifth round from Miami.
