Two names have been the biggest surrounding the Washington Redskins so far– Marvin Lewis and Ron Rivera.
And Rivera might just be in the lead.
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported the “Redskins are among the teams with a real and legitimate interest…” but cautioned against it happening because the former Carolina Panthers coach could have plenty of interest from other teams.
It’s not hard to see why Rivera might be the top option. He’s a two-time AP NFL Coach of the Year with a .546 record as a coach who has had some playoff success, too. His reputation as a leader of locker rooms is unmatched.
The problem with gunning for Rivera is that very reputation though, as plenty of teams in need of culture makeovers will attempt to woo him in the coming days, if not weeks. If the Redskins don’t change things internally they may indeed have to lean on fallback plans like Marvin Lewis.
For now though, consider Rivera target No. 1.
