If Julian Edelman were to retire this offseason, it wouldn’t be a shock to many.
The 34-year-old lost his best friends in Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski, while facing complete uncertainty about the New England Patriots’ future. He played in a career-low six games this season after getting knee surgery and it isn’t getting any easier to run through the middle of the field as a slot receiver.
Edelman’s in the perfect place to hang it up. He’s a Super Bowl MVP, three-time Super Bowl champion and a record-holder for numerous playoff receiving statistics.
With all that being said — does this cryptic tweet suggest that he’s done?
Boston I love you. You’ve weighed on my and my family’s mind for a long time! 🙌🙏🏻❤️ #gottabelieve #💍💍💍🐿 https://t.co/O8d2bYj6bd

That isn’t quite clear, but the rest of the facts are. He has one year left on a two-year, $18 million extension that’ll land him $2.8 million in 2021. There’s many questions to be answered and the Patriots could miraculously come up with a franchise quarterback.
But, if Bill Belichick can’t quickly turn things around, the days of No. 11 in Gillette Stadium could be coming to and end.
