Former Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker James Harrison loves to bring negative attention to his former team. Harrison went on a podcast this week and proceeded to stir up everyone by implying that he was somehow compensated by head coach Mike Tomlin for a hit on Cleveland Browns wide receiver Mohamed Massaquoi.
Harrison’s agent has come out publicly and said there is no way it could have actually happened. Which is all well and good. But Harrison said it did. This is just the latest in a series of things Harrison has said publicly since leaving the team which casts the franchise in a negative light.
Back in 2017, Harrison went out of his way to orchestrate his release from the team when he wasn’t getting as many reps as he wanted. After going to the Patriots and losing the Super Bowl, Harrison retired and since has pulled no punches in taking shots at his former team, including Tomlin and quarterback Ben Roethlisberger.
The Steelers are a loyal franchise and love bringing back former players in an official capacity for events. After this latest incident, it might be best for the Steelers to divest themselves from Harrison and let him continue his public campaign to gain notoriety at the expense of the team that gave him a shot when no other team would.
