As Boston Celtics star forward Jayson Tatum continues to add to his resume of broken records long held by Hall of Fame greats who played for the storied franchise — and were set by said giants of the sport at much later parts of their respective careers — the question of just how great of an all-time Celtics player the St. Louis native will eventually end up becoming.
“We’re talking 41 championships, and they’ve been hoarded by 17 guys,” weighed in former Sports Illustrated reporter Ian Thomsen in a recent appearance on the CLNS Media “Celtics Beat” podcast in a conversation with hosts Eval Valenti and Adam Kaufman.
“Magic (Johnson), Larry (Bird), Moses Malone, Isiah Thomas (the elder one), Michael Jordan, Tim Duncan, Shaq (O’Neal), Dwyane Wade, (Kevin) Garnett, Kobe (Bryant), Dirk (Nowitzki), LeBron (James), Kawhi (Leonard), Steph Curry, Kevin Durant … and some of these guys on the list, they came out of nowhere.”
“That’s how it would be for Tatum,” related Thomsen — check out the pod embedded above to hear the rest of their thoughts about the Duke product’s ascent.
