As we get set for a new UNC basketball season in just under two weeks, a lot of the attention will be on the Tar Heels, and rightfully so.
They are the No. 1 team in both the AP and USA TODAY Sports Coaches polls and a trendy pick to win the title in April. That’s because they return four of five starters from a year ago including guard Caleb Love.
The junior opted to return for another year in Chapel Hill after taking a big step forward in his development from his freshman season to his sophomore season. And going into this year, Love just might be one of the most entertaining players in all of college basketball.
The Athletic took a poll of 17 experts on its site, asking them who the most entertaining player in college basketball is. And leading the way with four votes is Love.
Here is what The Athletic wrote on Love:
The Caleb Love Experience — and an experience it is — returns, after the nation was introduced to the mercurial guard last March. Will he make seven straight 3s in a game or go 2 of 15? You never know … which is what makes him so fun. — Brendan Marks
I don’t think there is anything more fun to watch than seeing Love get smoldering hot and just not be able to consider missing. — Sam Vecenie
Caleb Love, with a caveat: I want a *fully actualized* Caleb Love. I want Caleb Love to be even *more* confident. I want to see some James Harden shimmies every now and again. Can you even imagine? — Eamonn Brennan
Love’s four votes beat out Oral Roberts’ Max Abmas (3), and Gonzaga’s Drew Timme (3) for the top spot. Others listed included Hunter Dickinson, Kerr Kriisa, Oscar Tshiebwe and Jelly Walker.
The point guard finished last season averaging 15.9 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 3.6 assists per game last season.
