After a run of massive success, the Iowa Hawkeyes women’s basketball team was still set up nicely, but was looking to replenish some scoring output at the guard position.
This led Iowa to jump into the transfer portal to bring in some experienced, proven guard play. That guard is former Villanova talent Lucy Olsen.
In her first year with Iowa, Olsen has hit the ground running, and it appears that she has been with the Hawkeyes for years. Her ability to spread the floor, facilitate, and score has opened up the offense.
Her play up to this point in the season has her among On3’s list of the most impactful Big Ten basketball transfers this season.
Lucy Olsen – Villanova to Iowa
Lucy Olsen had enormous shoes to fill when she transferred from Villanova to Iowa – impossible shoes to fill. With Caitlin Clark in the WNBA, Olsen was positioned to be the next up. She was the third-leading scorer in the NCAA last season and has the versatility to take on a Clark-adjacent role.
Last season at Villanova, she averaged 23.3 points, 4.8 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 1.9 steals. While her production has understandably dropped a tad, she’s a very significant part of Iowa’s early success this year. She’s no Clark (and she doesn’t claim to be), but she’s averaging 18.6 points, 4 rebounds and 5.6 assists. – Talia Goodman, On3
Having appeared in 10 games, Olsen has hit double-digit scoring each game, with at least 13 points every time.
