Iowa’s Drew Stevens named Big Ten Special Teams Player of the Week after game-winner

Quite the easy choice.

The Big Ten had an easy decision fall into their lap this week when looking at who to give out their weekly awards to.

Drew Stevens, the Iowa Hawkeyes kicker, made the choice simple with his 53-yard game-winning field goal to lift the Hawkeyes over the Nebraska Cornhuskers by a score of 13-10.

His kick and performance in the regular season finale to move Iowa to 8-4 on the year has earned him honors as the Big Ten Special Teams Player of the Week.

The kick was arguably the best of Drew Stevens’ career as it capped off a memorable and improbable Hawkeyes win.

With the temperatures well below freezing, the ball was not traveling well, yet Stevens got every bit of the ball to send it just inside and over the crossbar, which sent Kinnick Stadium into a frenzy capping off a proper Senior Day send-off.

The kick is especially sweet as Stevens struggled late in the year last year and did not get the chance to take the game-winning kick in Iowa’s 2023 13-10 win over Nebraska. This year allowed redemption and he didn’t miss.

Drew Stevens has been a vital part of LeVar Woods’ special team unit and earned the trust of head coach Kirk Ferentz with his clutch ability.

Stevens made all 37 of his 37 extra point attempts this season to make seven points each touchdown automatic as well as converting 19-22 field goal attempts to ensure Iowa would get points when they got into opponent territory.
