Iowa women’s basketball knocking on the door of AP Top 25 Poll

The Iowa Hawkeyes are on the hunt for a ranking in the AP Top 25.

The Iowa Hawkeyes women’s college basketball team is knocking on the door of the AP Top 25 Poll and on the hunt for a ranking this season with their red-hot start.

Sitting at 4-0 after capturing an 86-73 victory over in-state for, Drake, the Hawkeyes are right on the cusp of the poll as the first team out. Iowa is the team receiving the most votes in the poll without being ranked.

Iowa’s high-scoring ways have continued this year with two games of 90 or more points and an average of 85.5 points per game so far this year. As a team, they are shooting 51.8% overall from the field, 75.5% from the free-throw line, and 29.6% from the three-point range.

Iowa has a three-headed monster leading the way offensively with Lucy Olsen averaging 17.8 points, Addison O’Grady averaging 16.8 points, and Hannah Stuelke averaging 15 points per game.

Defensively, Iowa has held teams to 63.8 points per game so far. Teams are shooting only 35.4% from the field and turning it over an average of 19.3 times per game.

The top of the women’s AP Top 25 poll remained unchanged this week. The top 10, in order, at South Carolina, UConn, USC, Texas, UCLA, Notre Dame, LSU, Iowa State, Oklahoma, and Kansas State.

Other Big Ten representatives in this week’s poll include No. 11 Maryland, No. 12 Ohio State, No. 21 Nebraska, and No. 22 Illinois.

The Hawkeyes’ next action is on Wednesday, Nov. 20 when they take on the Kansas Jayhawks at the Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls, South Dakota at 6 p.m. CT, which will air on Big Ten Network.
