Iowa State is on the road for a second straight game after losing 79-66 at Oklahoma Saturday. ISU sports some of the best defensive numbers in the Big 12, and its 79 points allowed marked a season-high. Iowa State excels in defending the 3-ball: the Cyclones had held foes to a 24.8% mark from distance until the Sooners went 7-for-12.

The Jayhawks lead the Big 12 in scoring with 83.1 points per game, but they’re coming off a loss at Texas Tech Saturday. The defeat snapped an eight-game win streak with an average margin of nearly 19 points a game. Senior G Ochai Agbaji is shooting a career-best 47.3% on 3-point attempts and leads the conference in scoring with 20.5 PPG.

Against the spread

The Cyclones are 6-1-1 ATS in their last eight games as underdogs and are 4-1-1 ATS in their last six games following an ATS loss.

Iowa State is the likable side in this contest, even at Allen Fieldhouse against an angry Jayhawks squad looking to bounce back from a loss, and not because of its defense — it’s had a couple of sneakily decent offensive games of late.

While the Cyclones haven’t played a great schedule overall, they have performed well against the likes of Xavier, Memphis, Creighton, Iowa, Baylor, and Texas Tech as they’ve posted five ATS wins and an ATS loss by just 1 point.

TAKE IOWA STATE +11.5 (-112).

Over/Under

The Over is 4-1 in the Jayhawks’ last five games against teams playing .600 or better basketball and it’s 7-3 in the last 10 meetings between these Big 12 opponents.

ISU’s defensive numbers are a bit suspect because of its schedule. Look for the Jayhawks to have their tempo cranked up off a creaky non-conference home win on New Year’s Day over George Mason and two road games including a loss.

BACK THE OVER 141.5 (-110).
