Iowa HS playoff game final score: 108-94, and yes it is football

An Iowa high school football playoff game wound up 108-94.

There were more points scored in an Iowa high school football playoff game Thursday than in most prep basketball games.

The final: Remsen St. Mary’s 108, Montezuma 94. Yes, 108-94.

The eight-player on each side game took 4:01. There were 66 points scored in the third quarter and 54 tacked on in the fourth. That makes for 120 points after halftime! There were 29 touchdowns in the entire game.

How about 1,497 yards of total offense? Montezuma had 744 passing yards; St. Mary’s (11-0) rushed for 559. Montezuma (10-1) scored 94 points despite having the ball for 13:58 in the 48-minute game.

Individually, Montezuma QB Eddie Burgess was 34-for-60 for 689 yards and 9 TDs. Trey Shearer caught 20 passes for 389 yards and 7 TDs.

On the short side, Blaine Harpenau rushed 40 times for 357 yards and 4 TDs. Brenden Fisch had 10 carries for 123 yards and 5 scores.
