Iowa (6-5, 0-2 Big Ten) returns to action tonight from inside Carver-Hawkeye Arena against the UMBC Retrievers.
The Hawkeyes snapped a three-game losing streak over the weekend, rolling away from Florida A&M (2-7) in an 88-52 blowout win over the Rattlers. Iowa shot 54.0% from the field and 38.5% from 3-point range and had 22 assists on 34 made shots.
Four Hawkeyes finished in double-figure scoring, including freshman forward Owen Freeman who finished with a game-high 14 points. The 6-foot-10, 230 pound big from Moline, Ill., also tallied his first career double-double as he reeled in a career-high 11 rebounds. It was the fifth game Freeman has scored in double figures.
Junior forward Payton Sandfort scored 13 points, senior guard Tony Perkins added 12 and freshman point guard Brock Harding chipped in with 10.
Iowa limited Florida A&M to 30.2% shooting, forced 15 FAMU turnovers, came away with 11 steals and blocked six shots.
UMBC (5-8) enters losers of three straight having dropped contests against Morgan State, Towson and Saint Peter’s. The Retrievers’ last win came on Dec. 2 in a 92-87 triumph over Lehigh.
