Iowa Hawkeyes stay put in CBS Sports 134 college football rankings despite win, Huskers rise

The Hawkeyes stay put while the incoming Cornhuskers close in.

More often than not a strong road showing is going to see teams’ rankings in the polls receive some upward movement and respect.

Oddly, that is not the case for the Iowa Hawkeyes coming off of their 29-13 road win over the Maryland Terrapins in Week 13.

Entering Week 14, the final week of the college football regular season, the Hawkeyes have stayed put in this week’s CBS Sports 134 college football rankings.

Iowa is holding steady at No. 33 as they prepare for their season finale at home inside Kinnick Stadium against the Nebraska Cornhuskers.

Nebraska, who finally achieved bowl eligibility with their win over the Wisconsin Badgers, sits at 6-5 and received a respectable six-spot bump in this week’s rankings. The Cornhuskers have climbed up to No. 48.

As the two get ready for their matchup this week, bragging rights are on the line in this rivalry trophy game. The Heroes Trophy is up for grabs.

The Cornhuskers hold a 30-21-3 all-time series lead in this rivalry but are seeing that gap close rapidly.

The Hawkeyes have won nine of the last 11 games which included a streak of wins from 2015 to 2021. The Hawkeyes snuck out a win last year at Nebraska by a score of 13-10 on a game-winning field goal.

Kickoff for the rivalry, which is played on Black Friday, is set for 6:30 p.m. CT on Friday, Nov. 29, and will air on NBC.
