It was inevitable that the Iowa Hawkeyes would see a slide down some rankings and polls after their last outing. Despite it being against Ohio State, one of the top teams in the nation, Iowa did not do much to show they belong near the top 25 yet at this point in the season in any sort of rankings.
On the flip side, Iowa’s next opponent and Big Ten newcomer, the Washington Huskies, took down the defending champions, the Michigan Wolverines, and are being rewarded.
The Huskies’ win was impressive and has them climbing up the rankings in this week’s rendition of the CBS Sports 134 Rankings.
Following the loss that dropped Iowa to 3-2 on the year, the Hawkeyes have slid to No. 41 in the country in these rankings, a 12-spot drop. Washington’s win moved them to 4-2 on the year sees them make a 10-spot jump and ascend just above Iowa to No. 39 in the country.
As far as their Big Ten play, Iowa sits at 1-1 as they hold a win over the Minnesota Golden Gophers. Washington is 2-1 in conference play with another win over Northwestern and a loss to the Rutgers Scarlet Knights.
This Saturday sees Washington come to Kinnick Stadium as it is the Iowa Hawkeyes’ Big Ten home opener. Kickoff is set for Saturday, Oct. 12 at 11 a.m. CT and the matchup will air on FOX.
