Jan Jensen and the Iowa Hawkeyes women’s college basketball team are finding a way to get it done in the post-Cailitn Clark era.
With a revamped offense and a desire to prove they were underrated to start this season, they are off to a strong start this season and climbing the rankings.
Up to No. 17 in the AP Top 25 poll and cracking the CBS Sports’ women’s college basketball power rankings, Iowa is making some noise and proving itself.
The Hawkeyes are also making noise in ESPN’s women’s college basketball reactions. Their five-spot jump in the AP Poll has garnered the attention of many.
17. Iowa Hawkeyes
Previous ranking: 22
2024-25 record: 8-0
Stat to know: Three players — Lucy Olsen, Addison O’Grady and Hannah Stuelke — have led the Hawkeyes in scoring in the last three games. Last season, someone other than Caitlin Clark led Iowa in scoring in just two of 39 games.
What’s next: Saturday vs. Tennessee, 7 p.m., FOX – Michael Voepel, ESPN
Iowa is finding a way to win and has done so lately without one of their best scorers, Lucy Olsen, on the court due to a cut on her knee. She is expected to return soon.
The test for Iowa comes this week as they get to find out how good they are.
First up is a matchup against the Tennessee Volunteers, a team just outside the poll, in the Champions Classic in Brooklyn on Saturday, Dec. 7 at 6 p.m. CT.
After that, Iowa heads back home for the Cy-Hawk game against No. 20 Iowa State and follows that with a road trip to No. 24 Michigan State.
This is a three-game gauntlet for the Hawkeyes, but a clean sweep could have a top-10 spot waiting for them if they can navigate the next week.
