Despite the Iowa Hawkeyes and the Wisconsin Badgers having opposite results this past weekend, they are not too different teams and find themselves, as they usually do, mirroring each other quite a bit.
Iowa beat Northwestern handily, 40-14, while Wisconsin fell to Penn State at home by a score of 28-13. Both teams share identical overall records of 5-3 and 3-2 records in Big Ten play.
The opposite results have the two teams switching positions in the weekly CBS Sports 134 College Football Rankings. Iowa has leapfrogged Wisconsin this week.
The Hawkeyes have moved up for spots from No. 40 to No. 36 with their win while the Badgers slide four spots down from No. 34 to No. 38.
Despite the leapfrogging, the two teams are extremely similar and these rankings are simply another indication of that. This matchup is usually a low-scoring, physical, defensive affair that turns on one or two game-changing plays.
Both teams are going to be starting quarterbacks that were not atop the depth chart to begin the season. After coming in last week in relief of Cade McNamara, Brendan Sullivan is getting the nod.
As for Wisconsin, Tyler Van Dyke began the season under center but it has since been Braedyn Locke running things as Van Dyke tore his ACL in Week 3.
The Heartland Trophy, another one of Iowa’s four rivalry games on the calendar this year, is up for grabs and the Hawkeyes are looking to make it a third-straight year of coming the brass bull in Iowa City.
