Iowa Hawkeyes hold at No. 3 in the USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll

After a week that saw two strong road wins, the Iowa Hawkeyes women’s basketball team holds their spot in the USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll.

Two road wins against Power 5 teams is a good way to ensure that your spot in the USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll remains untouched regardless of what goes on around you.

The Iowa Hawkeyes did that this week with road wins over Iowa State in the Cy-Hawk game and in front of a sellout crowd on the road against the Wisconsin Badgers. The Hawkeyes are No. 3 in this week’s USA TODAY Sports Coaches poll.

Iowa is behind only South Carolina and UCLA, each clinging to a 9-0 record. The Gamecocks, No. 1, received all of the first-place votes in the poll. The Hawkeyes are the highest-ranked team with one loss.

While No. 3 in this poll, the Hawkeyes sit at No. 4 in the AP Top 25 poll. The AP and the Coaches Poll have the Hawkeyes and North Carolina State Wolfpack trading between No. 3 and No. 4.

Iowa’s next contest comes on Saturday, Dec. 16 against Cleveland State as the second game of the Hy-Vee Hawkeye Showcase doubleheader. This game comes after the conclusion of the men’s game which features the Iowa Hawkeyes against Florida A&M. The games are at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines, Iowa.
