The Iowa Hawkeyes‘ 3-0 start seems to be getting at least a little bit of notice from some national outlets. After a 41-10 handling of Western Michigan which showed a second half domination, the Hawkeyes are climbing the polls.
After ascending to No. 22 in the US LBM Coaches Poll and up one spot to No. 24 in the AP Top 25, the Hawkeyes all climbed in CBS Sports 133 rankings.
Like the AP poll, the Hawkeyes are coming in at No. 24 in the CBS rankings. This is a one-spot climb from last week. The upcoming opponent, the Penn State Nittany Lions, did not see any change in their rankings this week. They held at No. 8 following a 30-13 win against the Illinois Fighting Illini.
This means that the upcoming matchup on Saturday night in Happy Valley is a ranked matchup pretty much any way you cut it using whichever preferred ranking metric that you may like. The Hawkeyes and Nittany Lions are on opposite sides of the Big Ten, but this game will nonetheless be the premier Big Ten matchup of the entire weekend.
Penn State has a 3-0 record with wins over West Virginia, Delaware, and Illinois. None of their matchups have been closer than 17 points. The Hawkeyes are 3-0 with wins over Utah State, Iowa State, and Western Michigan. This Week 4 matchup is an early season heavyweight fight that is going to be a test for each squad.
