Iowa Hawkeyes back on track in ESPN’s power rankings

The Hawkeyes wasted no time righting the ship. Following a win over Nebraska, the Hawkeyes are back on track in ESPN’s power rankings.

The Iowa Hawkeyes wasted no time getting back on track. After a strong showing in a home win over the Nebraska Cornhuskers, the Hawkeyes are back on course toward a Big Ten title and NCAA Tournament run.

Iowa slid in last week’s power rankings from ESPN, but it jumped three spots to No. 3 in this week’s rankings.

3. Iowa Hawkeyes (19-2)
Previous ranking:
 6
This week: at Northwestern Wildcats (Wednesday), at Maryland Terrapins (Saturday)

The Hawkeyes had a week to reflect on their overtime loss at Ohio State and rest a little. They looked sharp in a 92-73 victory over Nebraska this past Saturday. Caitlin Clark continued her career-long demolition of the Huskers with 38 points; she has scored at least 30 points all eight times she has faced Nebraska. Clark (3,389) needs 14 points to pass Jackie Stiles (3,393) and Kelsey Mitchell (3,402) to move into second place on the NCAA women’s scoring list. – Michael Voepel, ESPN

Iowa (19-2, 7-1 Big Ten) has a chance to stack two more conference wins this week in games they should win. First is a home game against the Northwestern Wildcats (7-1, 2-7 Big Ten) on Wednesday, Jan. 31 at 7 p.m. CT.

The Hawkeyes wrap up the week with a road trip to the Maryland Terrapins (12-8, 4-5 Big Ten). This game is going to be a great chance for the Hawkeyes to put on a show for everyone to see as it is airing on “Fox Primetime Hoops.

The rest of the top five in these power rankings are No. 1 South Carolina, No. 2 Kansas State, No. 4 Stanford, and No. 4 North Carolina State.
