It may seem like the world is ending for the Iowa Hawkeyes and that the season is over in Iowa City, but that may be very far from the case. The loss to Iowa State can sting, but some perspective also needs to be had.
Iowa lost a close game to a good, now-ranked team. They now get to host the 0-2 Troy Trojans at home and have the opportunity to gain some confidence and enter Big Ten play with a 2-1 record.
As much as many have written Iowa off, CBS Sports has maintained a clear perspective and only slid Iowa a few spots in the weekly CBS Sports 134 rankings of all 134 FBS teams.
In this week’s rankings, the Hawkeyes are just outside the top 25 and come in at No. 26 after a seven-spot slide following the loss.
With at least one team in front of them bound to lose, Iowa is on the cusp of returning to these rankings just as they are still receiving votes in the US LBM Coaches Poll.
Iowa’s next opponent, the Troy Trojans have started off the year with two straight losses. They fell to Nevada in Week 1 and lost on the road to Memphis in Week 2.
The Trojans come in at No. 104 out of 134 teams in the rankings after falling nine spots due to their most recent loss.
Iowa and Troy square off in Kinnick Stadium on Saturday, Sep. 14 at 3:00 p.m. CT.
