Iowa climbs in latest USA TODAY Sports Women’s Basketball Coaches Poll

After their dominant win over Nebraska, Iowa saw a one-spot climb in the latest USA TODAY Sports Women’s Basketball Coaches Poll.

The Iowa Hawkeyes responded from their loss at Ohio State with an emphatic 92-73 win over Nebraska this past Saturday on Taylor Swift Day inside Carver-Hawkeye Arena.

Though it was close at halftime, Iowa awoke in the second half to race away from the Cornhuskers.

Senior guard Caitlin Clark was limited to just 10 points on 3-of-10 shooting, including 1-of-6 from 3-point land. That changed after recess.

Clark exploded for 28 second-half points as she knocked down 6-of-8 3-pointers and 9-of-12 field goal attempts overall. It all added up to another 30-piece and then some for Clark. The West Des Moines superstar finished with 38 points, 10 rebounds, six assists and two steals to record her 53rd career double-double.

Graduate guard Kate Martin had another strong performance, scoring 16 points on 6-of-11 shooting with five rebounds, four assists and a steal. Junior guard Sydney Affolter rounded out Iowa’s double-figure scorers against the Huskers with 12 points on 4-of-6 shooting.

With Iowa’s bounce-back victory, the Hawkeyes saw themselves climb in the latest USA TODAY Sports Women’s Basketball Coaches Poll. The Hawkeyes are back up to No. 4 nationally after slipping to No. 5 last week following the 100-92 overtime setback at Ohio State.
