Iowa CB Jermari Harris reportedly opting out of remainder of season to focus on 2025 NFL draft

According to reports, Iowa cornerback Jermari Harris is opting out of the remainder of the season to focus on the 2025 NFL draft.

On the eve of the Iowa Hawkeyes’ trip to take on the Maryland Terrapins in Week 13 of the college football season, news dropped that their defense will be without one of their top assets.

According to HawkeyeInsider‘s David Eickholt with 247Sports, Iowa graduate cornerback Jermari Harris is reportedly opting out of the remainder of the season in order to prepare for the 2025 NFL draft.

Harris, a product of Montini Catholic in Chicago, will leave the Hawkeyes’ program after spending five years in Iowa City.

Harris appeared in 42 games and has 28 starts to his name. The cornerback has tallied 105 career tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss as a part of Phil Parker’s defense.

Harris’ ball skills are undeniable as he reeled in eight career interceptions and got his hands on the ball for 27 pass deflections while donning the black and gold.

In the 2024 season to date, Harris has tallied 27 tackles, 10 passes defensed, three interceptions and one tackle for loss. Harris registered a 28-yard interception return for a touchdown in Iowa’s 38-21 Sept. 14 win at Troy.

Harris’ legacy will live on at Iowa as he was a member of the Player Council in 2023 and was also Iowa’s 2023 Comeback Player of the Year.
