Ioanna Papatheodorou had an outstanding week for the Washington Huskies, scoring two braces in games against Michigan and No. 5 ranked Michigan State, and has been named the NCAA’s Player of the Week for her efforts.
The senior forward from Athens, Greece, also became the team’s first Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week since Washington made the move to its new conference.
Papatheodorou is in her second season with the Huskies after transferring from UMass Lowell and has scored 7 goals on the season, tying her for No. 9 in the conference. Her two goals in the big victory over the No. 5 Spartans, a team that is well on its way to the NCAA Tournament, came on free kicks after Washington fell behind in the match.
The Huskies have one more road game left of the season as coach Nicole Van Dyke’s team will take on the Nebraska Cornhuskers in Lincoln on October 20. Papatheodorou and the rest of the Huskies will finish up their season against the rival Oregon Ducks at Husky Soccer Stadium on October 27 at 3:00 p.m.
