Head coach Stephen Silas, rookie guard Jalen Green, and veteran center Daniel Theis each met with the media on Friday afternoon to share their thoughts after day four of Houston Rockets training camp.
The Rockets are nearing the end of a week-long stint in coastal Galveston, which is designed to help the team bond off the court. Early next week, they return home to Houston’s Toyota Center, where the 2021-22 preseason opener is set for Tuesday, Oct. 5 against Washington.
The initial days of training camp have been focused primarily on practice drills for Houston’s very young roster. But with the preseason only days away, the Rockets will transition Saturday to game situations.
“It’s been a good four days,” Silas told reporters. “We’ve been working on a ton. We’ve been doing a lot of technique and organizational stuff. Now, it’s time for us, starting tomorrow, to just play.” He continued:
We’ve been doing drills, and they’ve great during those drills. They’ve been attentive, going hard, trying and all of that. But at this point, with Saturday as the fifth day of training camp, we’re going to just play. Hopefully we can get three quarters in, where they can use the things that we’ve been talking about, and then we can use some film to support that, and teach a little bit more on the back end of playing.
But so far, so good. It’s been a really, really good camp.
Here’s a roundup of videos and quotes from the post-practice interviews with Silas, Green, and Theis. Rockets training camp continues on Saturday, again from the Galveston Island Convention Center.
