In-state 2021 commit to enroll early at Michigan

The Spartans may try to flip the East Lansing (MI) Wolverines commit, but their chances are significantly decreasing.

If Michigan is able to have a spring football season, the true freshman playmakers could really have a field day.

No, we’re not talking about A.J. Henning and Roman Wilson, the four-star 2020 wide receivers who have been on campus since June. We’re talking about 2021 four-star Xavier Worthy and dual-sport three-star Andrel Anthony from East Lansing (MI).

While it’s unclear what the protocol would be if early-enrollees get to campus in January and a season happens in the following months, whether or not those players would get to play, naturally, it’s still a net positive to get them into the program early. Especially a player like Anthony, the highly-coveted prospect that rival MSU reportedly went all-in for before he ultimately chose to be a Wolverine.

Like with Worthy — who has offers from the Alabamas and LSUs of the world — a player enrolling early more solidifies their commitment to their school of choice, also ensuring they sign early and lower the risk of flipping to another school closer to Signing Day proper. Thus, with Anthony’s announcement on Friday that he’ll be a midyear enrollee at Michigan, the chances that the Spartans, Nittany Lions or Fighting Irish could get involved are increasingly dwindling.

According to the 247Sports Composite, Anthony is rated No. 530 in the 2021 class and is the No. 86 wide receiver in the country.
