Instant reactions to Alabama’s statement win over Georgia

The Crimson Tide picked up a huge victory Saturday night.

On Saturday night, the Alabama Crimson Tide played what was undoubtedly their toughest opponent of the 2024 season so far in the Georgia Bulldogs.

One of college football’s top teams, Alabama took care of business against the Bulldogs as well, defeating Georgia by a final score of 41-34.

A signature win for the Crimson Tide early in the year, here are some instant reactions to Alabama’s Week 5 victory:

Statement first quarter

You could likely not have scripted a better start for Alabama than what the Crimson Tide did Saturday night, as they held a 21-0 lead at the end of the first quarter. Alabama scored a touchdown on each of their three drives in the quarter, while the Crimson Tide defense forced a Georgia punt, interception, and another punt.

Jalen Milroe’s early Heisman Trophy moment

While still early in the year, Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe might just have cemented himself as the frontrunner for the Heisman Trophy in the victory over Georgia. In all, Milroe completed 27-of-33 passes for 374 yards and two touchdowns and a pick, while also rushing for 117 yards and two touchdowns on 16 attempts.

Defense impresses against Carson Beck

The Alabama defense gave Georgia quarterback Carson Beck problems during the first half, with the Bulldogs signal caller throwing three interceptions for the game. Alabama’s defense also forced a fumble from Beck.

Third down defense

Speaking of defense, the Crimson Tide were strong on third down Saturday night, holding Georgia to a combined 3-for-15. The Bulldogs however were successful on fourth down, converting all five attempts.

Second half struggles

As good as Alabama was in the first half, the Crimson Tide struggled during the second. Georgia was able to move the ball more offensively, and outscored the Crimson Tide in the second half altogether, 27-11.

True freshmen step up in fourth quarter

After going down late in the fourth quarter, Alabama got a pair of massive plays from true freshmen Ryan Williams and Zabien Brown. Williams had a 75-yard touchdown reception to take the lead, while Brown had an interception to seal the win.
