The Alabama Crimson Tide were back in action Saturday night for their final road game of the regular season. They traveled to Norman for their first SEC contest with the Oklahoma Sooners.
This was certainly not an enjoyable trip to Norman for the Crimson Tide either. Alabama struggled mightily against the Sooners on their way to a devastating 24-3 defeat.
After a game in which the Crimson Tide simply were outplayed at times, let’s look at some instant reactions to Alabama’s loss at Oklahoma in Week 13:
Alabama offense struggles mightily
Simply put, this might’ve been the worst offensive performance of the season for Alabama, which scored a season-low three points. Alabama was outgained, 325-234, in total yardage, and did not score after its second drive of the game.
Alabama defense struggles against the run
Oklahoma’s offense was one of the SEC’s worst at running the ball, yet it had a big day Saturday against Alabama. The Sooners outgained Alabama on the ground, 257-70, headlined by a game-high 131 yards from quarterback Jackson Arnold.
Alabama’s costly turnovers
Alabama had the ball at the start of the second half down 10-3. However, that deficit quickly grew to 24-3 after a pair of Jalen Milroe interceptions in the third quarter. One of those was returned for a touchdown.
Alabama’s CFP and SEC title chances likely over
After this loss to Oklahoma, the Crimson Tide’s chances to make the SEC championship game are at zero. With three losses, Alabama’s chances of making the College Football Playoff are also very slim.
