What was a guessing game for the last month recently received clarity and has now come to fruition. The Panthers traded up to the No. 1 overall pick in order to select Alabama Crimson Tide signal caller Bryce Young to be their franchise quarterback for the next decade.
Young dominated at Alabama, proving time and time again to be the best quarterback in college football. This includes collecting a Heisman trophy during the 2021 season. Over the last two seasons, Young has put up 86 total touchdowns and posted a ridiculous quarterback rating of 165 during that span.
While not possessing a rocket arm, Young has enough arm and velocity to succeed in the NFL. His decision-making, ability to make plays out of the pocket, snap release, escapability, and accuracy will make him a dangerous quarterback to defend right away in the NFL. While his size does stir some controversy, he has taken big hits before, and his ability to evade pressure should serve him just as well at the next level.
Young will prove to be an immediate starter for the Panthers. He will likely bring not only an upgrade at the position, but the tide shift of a culture change as well. He is a proven winner with enough smarts and dedication to help carry this franchise for however long he is in Carolina blues.
