Penn State has defeated Maryland, 31-14, in a gutsy performance from start to finish. Jahan Dotson set a new school record for the most receiving yards in a game and the Nittany Lions are now bowl eligible with three games to play.
The Penn State offense really struggled to get the ball moving to start the game, going -7 yards to start their first drive and back four yards on its second drive. But a big touchdown strike from Sean Clifford to Dotson, the first of three in the game, opened the scoring in Penn State’s favor.

The Nittany Lions didn’t really get it going until late in the third quarter. It was a low-scoring game with several mistakes from both Sean Clifford and their struggling offensive line.
There were also quite a few questionable plays that many fans took to Twitter, expressing their frustrations and blaming it on coaching.

For example, there were drives where Penn State attempted to go for it on fourth down using their run game, where they have struggled at all season. Both teams had a fairly quiet first half. Maryland missed a PAT to put Penn State up 7-6 at halftime.
The offense just didn’t click all game. Despite three big touchdown catches from Jahan Dotson, there wasn’t much rhythm in the passing game.

Dotson’s third touchdown run ended up being Penn State’s longest offensive play of the season. He is continuing to perform at the highest level and could potentially hear his name called as a first-round wide receiver come April.
Penn State heads back home to take on the Michigan Wolverines, who, despite their loss to Michigan State last weekend, have had an impressive season.
With three games left of the season, it’s all about how they finish. Michigan is a winnable game, but a lot is going to have to change after today’s performance.
