Instant Analysis: LSU softball remains unbeaten with series opening win at Kentucky

One game into SEC play, and the Tigers remain perfect on the year.

The LSU softball team began SEC play against a ranked opponent on the road on Friday night, and the Tigers are still unbeaten.

Coach Beth Torina’s team moved to 20-0 on the season with a 6-2 win in its series opener against Kentucky. [autotag]Sydney Berzon[/autotag] pitched a complete game for the Tigers, and while she allowed seven hits and only struck out five, that led to just two earned runs.

LSU got on the board first in the second inning with a pair of runs on a passed ball and bases bases-loaded walk. It would add three more runs in the third after a throwing error and wild pitch scored two followed by an RBI single from [autotag]Ali Newland[/autotag].

Kentucky would add a run in the third and sixth innings, but it never mounted a real comeback. The two teams will face off again in Game 2 on Saturday with first pitch set for 5 p.m. CT.
